‘Cricket ko politics se mix mat karo’ – Fans react as Mamata Banerjee claims India could have won World Cup if match was in Kolkata or Mumbai

The chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee recently mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi as she publicly labelled him a sinner after the Indian cricket team failed to win the ODI World Cup 2023 in the finals. India and Australia met for the final match of the ODI World Cup on 19 November at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Australia defeated India by six wickets after India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. 

As per Banerjee, PM Modi was bad luck for the Indian team as India lost the only match he came to watch in the stadium which was the final. She also discussed that India would have easily won if the finals was conducted in either Eden Gardens in Kolkata or the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. 

“The Indian team played so well that they won all the matches in ODI World Cup 2023, except the one attended by the sinners,” said Mamata Banerjee in her recent speech while mocking the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Motera Stadium during the final match of the tournament between India and Australia.

Mamata Banerjee’s mocking remarks to the BJP government and PM Narendra Modi came just a few days after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called PM Narendra Modi a panauti or bad luck in his recent speech. 

“I can tell you if the (World Cup) final would have been in Eden (Gardens in Kolkata) or Wankhede (Stadium in Mumbai), we would have won. They (BJP) have given them saffron jerseys,” said Banerjee. 

“All federations have been taken over by political parties. There is gerua(saffron) in cricket and gerua in kabaddi. was the colour of tyagis(ascetics), but you are bhogis (worldly person)”, she added. 

“Now everything is turning into saffron. We are proud of our Indian players and I believe they will be the world champions. But even their dress has been turned to saffron when they practice. They used to wear blue earlier,” concluded Mamata.
