After the loss of India against Australia in the ODI World Cup final 2023, many former cricketers and fans of cricket have been shocked. Most of the predictions were about India eventually winning the World Cup. But as the fate turned out, India lost to Australia in a humiliating way. The loss of India hurt many fans of the Indian team, who expected India to win the tournament, considering it was the best team on paper.

Till the final of the tournament, India was unbeaten. The home side dominated the entire tournament till the final without breaking much sweat. The way India played in the tournament was lauded by many. But on the big day, Australia turned out to be the better team. Yet, the discussion has been going on about the best team in the tournament. Mohammad Kaif claimed that the best team did not win the tournament.

The former Indian cricketer said that India was the best team on paper, and he would never accept that Australia was the best team in the tournament. “I can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best team on paper,” said Kaif on a show on the broadcasting channel. The views of Kaif had mixed views. But most of them believed that Kaif was wrong.

‘At the end of the day, you need to perform when it matters’ – David Warner

The statement of Kaif went viral on the internet. Many replied to him saying that cricket is won on the field, not on paper. “I think someone needs to remind former Indian batter, Mohammad Kaif that World Cup finals are won on a cricket field and not on paper #ICCCricketWorldCup #INDvAUS,” wrote a user on X.
Replying to the same, Warner commented that one must perform on the big day to be considered the best. “I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day, you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come,” wrote Warner.
