Eoin Morgan opens up on going unsold in Indian T20 League 2022
Eoin Morgan is considered the main architect behind the evolution of white-ball cricket in England. He is thought of as one of the greatest captains in the limited-overs format. Morgan led England to its first-ever World Cup title in 2019. He was also seen leading the Kolkata team in 2021, who played in the finals of the tournament and finished as the runners-up.
However, Morgan was not retained by Kolkata ahead of the mega auctions of the Indian T20 League 2022. Later none of the participating teams showed any interest in securing the services of Morgan and as a result, the English captain went unsold in the event. The English captain however appears unfazed by him not getting a team for the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League.
In a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Morgan said – “I looked at the ITL as a win-win, to be honest. Being there at the biggest tournament in the world is an experience that I’ve used to my advantage over the years and I’ve had some great memories and experiences along the way. But looking to the rest of the year for us, once I start playing again, it doesn’t stop until after the World Cup. I’ve had a lovely period at home: good family time.”
Speaking of Morgan’s ex-franchise in the Indian T20 League, Kolkata is having a good time in the 15th edition of the tournament under their new leader Shreyas Iyer. They have managed to win three out of their five matches in the tournament so far but suffered a heavy defeat against Delhi in their last match. Kolkata’s next match is against Hyderabad on the 25th of March at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
