Australia’s top order batsman Steven Smith recently got candid about his performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Steve Smith has been Australia’s key batsman and has been out of form lately for the team, however, being deeply familiar with the Indian pitches, Steve Smith has hit the ball well lately and has scored a lot of runs for the team.

Australia recently defeated the Netherlands by a whopping margin of 309 runs as they scored 399 runs against the team in the first innings. Steve Smith scored 71 runs off 68 deliveries and added his vital contribution towards the team’s total score against the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup 2023.

“I moved back to the leg stump a little bit. I got my hands a little bit higher than what they’ve been for the last week. For some reason, they’ve dropped down a bit. I just felt it in the nets yesterday and everything sort of clicked back into place again,” said Steve Smith while talking to India today after scoring 400 runs and beating Netherlands by 309 runs.

“I felt like I was batting well a couple of weeks back against India. I thought I was actually getting back through the ball nicely on a pretty tough surface and playing well and then for a week kind of lost it for a bit,” he added.

“I got a couple of nice balls, I suppose the one that swung back and got me out, and (Kagiso) Rabada’s, which was a little questionable. I felt like I’d been batting well. I just needed to get the feel again and batting yesterday at the nets straight away I had a smile on my face at the back end. I felt good and took that into today and felt nice. I thought I was getting good positions today and yeah, hopefully, that continues,” said Smith.

The Australian captain Pat Cummins comments also appreciated Steven Smith for scoring runs in the post-ceremony and said, “Really happy, complete game. To put 400 on board and then defend well, couldn’t be happier. Crazy innings. I think we both contributed equally in that hundred partnership (chuckles). Those fantastic innings were the cleanest hitting I’ve seen. We played the style we liked to. Pleased with Smithy getting runs. We were aiming for powerplay wickets, and bowled quite well without a lot of luck.”
