Fans trolled Anushka Sharma after former India skipper Virat Kohli got out on a two-ball duck against West Indies in the ongoing third ODI. Skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first, which is unusual given that captains have preferred chasing in the series. Meanwhile, Kohli came out to bat after Sharma (13) was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph. Two balls later, the 33-year-old was caught down the legside by Shai Hope.
This is Kohli’s 15th duck in 260 games he has played since making his debut in 2008. Also, this is his second duck this year. The right-hander got a duck against South Africa in the second ODI as well. His batting average this year has been worse since 2008. In six games he played this year, the 2011 World Cup-winner has only amassed 142 runs averaging 23.66. His worse average was in 2008 when he averaged 31.80.
The last time Virat Kohli got an ODI hundred was when he hit his 43rd century against the West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. In that game, West Indies batted first and posted 240/7, despite Chris Gayle’s 72 off 41 balls and Evin Lewis 43 off 29 balls. They stitched an opening partnership of 115 runs in 10.5 overs before Lewis was caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Gayle followed soon after as he was caught by Kohli.
Only Nicholas Pooran (30 off 16) could play an innings of substance as they were restricted way below 300, which they were looking to get past at one stage in the 35 over-game. In reply, Rohit Sharma (10) was run out and his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan (36) couldn’t score big. Virat Kohli (114*) and Shreyas Iyer (65) made sure India chased down the target with ease, with six wickets in hand and 2.5 overs to spare.
Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma was blamed for Virat Kohli’s continuous failures.
