The defender came off the bench in the game against Saudi Arabia which the team lost. However, he maintained his place in the playing XI till the quarterfinal against arch-rivals, Netherlands in which he was shown a yellow card and was banned for a game. It will be interesting to see if makes a comeback in the team for the title clash.
