India and South Africa locked horns in the series-deciding last game of the three-match ODI series in Delhi. The game was interrupted by a wet outfield. However, it didn’t take long for the groundsmen to clear the ground. Despite everything, the game started without cutting down on the overs per side. At the toss, the home team decided to bowl first.

At the toss, the stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan said “I feel there is a bit of moisture and we want to exploit it. The team has been impressive and mature. We are going with the same team.” This decision proved right as the bowlers got into the action without any fuss. It all started with Dhawan introducing Washington Sundar in the first over and also placed Ishan Kishan in the short-leg position.

In the third over, Quinton de Kock (6) was caught at short third man by Avesh Khan off Sundar. After this, Mohammed Siraj, who is a potential replacement for Jasprit Bumrah for the 20-20 World Cup 2022, took two wickets in no time. He took out the likes of Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks with wonder short-pitch deliveries.

Kuldeep Yadav missed his hat-trick but took four wickets

The proteas couldn’t recover from the early losses. Aiden Markram, who batted well in the last game, was caught behind by Sanju Samson off Shahbaz Ahmed. Stand-in skipper David Miller missed an arm-ball from Sundar and paid the price by losing the stumps behind him. Heinrich Klassen (34) tried to resurrect his Proteas but was undone by a quick good length delivery from Shahbaz.

After this, the wickets fell like nine pins. Kuldeep Yadav, who has missed out on the World Cup ticket, took four wickets in the game. He was on a hat trick after trapping Bjorn Frtuin for lbw and cleaning up Anrich Nortje. Lungi Nigid, who faced the hat-trick ball, denied Yadav his third ODI hat trick. However, the left-arm wrist spinner took the wicket of Marco Jansen to restrict the Green brigade to 99 all-out.
