Last month when Deepti Sharma ‘Mankaded‘ (also known as non-striker run-out) Charlie Deen, it became the talk of the town like never before. At one point, the debate looked more like English Media and cricket fraternity vs the Rest of the World. The English media and cricketer fraternity criticized Sharma for resorting to a non-striking run-out. On the other hand, the rest of the stood aside the India all-rounder.

Recently, skippers of 16 teams in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 were asked whether they would resort to ‘Mankad’. Notably, neither of them uttered a word and decided to remain silent on the issue. At a time when the fans and former cricketers are focusing on the showpiece event, former Australia leg-spinner Brad Hogg has refueled the issue. It happened after the Zimbabwe-Pakistan game won by the Southern African side.

The two-time ODI World Cup winner from Australia took to Twitter to raise the issue. He posted a picture of Mohammad Wasim Jr. trying to take the extra mile of advantage. The incident happened right before the last ball of the game. At that point, the 2009 winners needed three runs to win.

Brad Hogg calls for severe penalties against batters for leaving the crease early

In the photo posted by Hogg, it was captioned “Why severe penalty needs to be brought in for leaving the crease before the ball is delivered! Last ball of the game last night!”. By the looks of it, he seems to point out how batters are gaining unfair advantage by leaving the crease early.

However, even after Wasim Jr ‘gained’ an advantage, his partner, Shaheen Afridi failed to keep up. Eventually, the latter was run-out, leaving his side with an agonizing one-run loss against Zimbabwe. With this loss, the Babar Azam-led side’s chances of qualifying for the semis are out of their hands. They need India to beat South Africa to remain alive. However, if the result goes the either, it will be the end of the road for the Green Brigade.
