Former India player hails Rishabh Pant’s comeback news in IPL 2024 as ‘phenomenal’

Rishabh Pant was touted as one of India’s greatest test wicket-keepers by many in a short span of only four years since his debut which speaks of the southpaw’s impact in Test cricket. He has played impactful innings in almost all the SENA countries and was a force to reckon with in the Test format.

But a life-threatening car incident in late 2022 kept Rishabh Pant out of the cricket scene for an infinite period with many speculating that his illustrious cricket career might be now over. Fortunately, in the last few months, he has shown remarkable improvement in his recovery and according to some reports he is set to make a comeback into competitive cricket in the upcoming edition of the IPL. Rishabh Pant is set to take up the captaincy of Delhi Capitals and will play as a batter and captain. Former India player and cricket analyst, Akash Chopra hails Rishabh Pant’s comeback in IPL 2024 and has cast his comeback as ‘phenomenal’.

While speaking on Rishabh Pant’s comeback in IPL 2024 on his YouTube channel, Akash Chopra said, “There are filtered reports that Rishabh Pant will be seen playing this year in the IPL, which is phenomenal. It is miraculous, considering where he came from and where he has reached.”

He also emphasized that cricket is just a small part of life and his comeback is less great news than that he has recovered well from the horrific accident and is fit and fine like before. Akash Chopra said, “Cricket is a very small part of life. It’s very important but cricket is there only if there is life. The sort of accident it was, I was just happy that he was alive. I am pretty sure he would have had to work very hard during the journey from there to here because it’s difficult and extremely lonely as well.”

Rishabh Pant’s comeback will be a boost for Delhi Capitals

Delhi fans would have taken a sigh of relief with Pant’s comeback into the squad for IPL 2024 as Delhi had a dismal season last year under David Warner’s captaincy as they finished 9th in the points table.

In 98 IPL matches, Rishabh Pant has accumulated 2838 runs, with an average of 34.61 and a strike rate of 147.97. However, his performance in the IPL 2022, his most recent participation in the tournament, was not outstanding. He managed to score 340 runs in 14 matches, with an average of 30.91 and a strike rate of 151.79.
