In a sting operation done by Zee News, the Indian Cricket Board chief selector Chetan Sharma made a shocking revelation about former Indian cricket board’s president Saurav Ganguly and former India skipper Virat Kohli.

According to the former right-arm seamer, Kohli has started considering himself bigger than the game and that didn’t go well with the Indian Cricket Board.

Kohli decided to step down from the T20I captaincy after the completion of the Men’s 20-20 World Cup in 2021, but he wanted to be the captain of the ODI and Test teams. However, he stepped down from the ODI captaincy in December 2021.

According to the chief selector, the Indian Cricket Board was not happy with Kohli as he started to consider himself bigger than the game and that’s why they decided to remove him from the leadership role. Hence, the Indian Cricket Board decided to appoint Rohit Sharma as all-format skipper in 2021.

Kohli was clearly told by the Indian Cricket Board president to re-think his decision: Virat Kohli

“Jab player thoda bada ho jaye to usko lagta hai ki vo bahut bada ho gaya, board se bhi bada ho gaya. Toh fir usko lagta hai ki mere ko toh koi kuch kar he nahi sakta. Mere bina to cricket band ho jayega India mein. Kabhi hua hai? Bade bade aaye, bade bade gaye, cricket to wahi ka wahi rehta hai. Toh vo usne uss samay hit maarne ki koshish kari president ko (When a player grows in stature, he starts thinking that he was become very big, bigger than the board even,” Sharma was quoted as saying in a sting video that has gone viral on social media.

“Then he starts thinking that nobody can stand against him. Without him, the cricket will stop. But has that ever happened? Many big players came and went, but cricket is still there; it remains the same. He wanted to confront the then-Indian Cricket Board president),” he added.

According to Sharma, Ganguly had requested Kohli to think about it once before leaving the T20I captaincy, and Kohli provided wrong information to the media that there was no such conversation between the two.

“I was present in the selection meeting. Kohli was clearly told by the Indian Cricket Board president to re-think his decision to quit the T20I captaincy. We all told him to reconsider his decision. But he lied to the media when he said that he got no such suggestion from anyone in the board,” the former Indian pacer stated.
