Garena reveals Free Fire Esports 2024 roadmap
Free Fire developers Garena have decided to rebrand the local league to Free Fire World Series (FFWS) and have announced the 2024 roadmap. Along with that, they have also announced a new mid-year global esports that will be taking place in July.
The regions mentioned in the roadmap include Brazil, SEA, LATAM and MEA. Except for the MEA region, all others have two seasons. Winners will then move on to the FFWS Global Finals that will take place sometime in November 2024.
Mid-year Global Tournament
Furthermore, a Mid-year Global Tournament is also announced by Garena. While the location for the tournament was not stated, the tournament timings are planned for July 2024. More details in this regard will be provided soon by the company.
All we know for now is that 18 teams will take part in the Mid-year Global Tournament. The winner of the tournament will guarantee their spot in the FFWS Global Series 2024.
The esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia is also set to take place in July, so an educated guess points out that Garena will also be taking part.
Uncertainty of Free Fire Esports FutureĀ
As of now, the format and prize pool has also not been revealed and the Global Finals location is also unclear. The rebranding and new roadmap does seem like the company is planning to further revive its esports scene.
Over the last few years, the Free Fire esports scene has seen a decline. While it was once the most-watched mobile esports title, over the years, competitors have taken its place.
The game was also banned in India along with Battleground Mobile India (BGMI). The latter made a comeback last year with new promises. While Free Fire also announced a relaunch, it was delayed for a few weeks and has yet to see the daylight.
