In the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka, the Lankan Lions skipper Dasun Shanaka scored the fastest fifty for his team. He scored a 20-ball fifty in Pune and went past the likes of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. Notably, Shanaka registered himself for the Indian T20 League player auction 2023. Unfortunately, he went unsold during the event even in the second round.

Meanwhile, former India opening batter Gautam Gambhir feels that Shanaka would have bagged a huge amount during the auctions. The former went on to say that his side, Lucknow would have run out of money. The two-time World Cup winner further added that if the ongoing India vs Sri Lanka series was played before the auction, the Sri Lanka skipper would have been sold.

“I won’t have money, he would be that expensive, the way he has batted. That is what the auction is all about. Imagine if this series had happened just before the auction, some of the franchises would probably not have had the money to buy him,” said Gambhir.

India vs Sri Lanka series is leveled 1-1

Meanwhile, talking about the three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka, the series is leveled 1-1. The Men In Blue won the first game by two runs to start the series. In reply, the visitors leveled the series as they won by 16 runs in Pune. With this, the Lankan Lions have the opportunity to win their first-ever series in India across formats. The Lankans haven’t won a series in India across formats. The last game will be played on January 9 in Rajkot. On the other hand, India would be looking to maintain their record against their Asian neighbors.
