The 15th edition of the Indian T20 League will see the addition of two new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The former recently roped in Andy Flower as the head coach. A day later, they have bagged another big fish as they signed Gautam Gambhir as a mentor for the team. Gambhir has a phenomenal record in ITL and is one of the most successful skippers in the tournament, having led Kolkata to two title wins in 2012 and 14.
“Thanks a lot to Dr Goenka and the RPSG Group for presenting me this wonderful opportunity in their setup,” Gambhir said “The fire to win a contest still burns bright inside me, the desire to leave a winner’s legacy still kicks me 24×7. I will not be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit and soul of Uttar Pradesh.”
“Gautam has an impeccable career record,” Goenka said. “I respect his cricketing mind and look forward to working with him.”
Meanwhile, speculations are rife that KL Rahul will lead the Lucknow team in the next season. Rahul was not retained by Punjab despite a stellar performance in the previous season, which was a confirmation of the rumours that KL Rahul wants to play for one of the new franchises. The appointment of Flower is another big hint. Flower and Rahul have worked together with Punjab in the previous two seasons. Along with Rahul, Rashid Khan is also likely to don the Lucknow jersey in the next edition.
