‘Get Well Soon Temba’ – Fans react as Temba Bavuma gets ruled out of match against England in ODI World Cup 2023

England and South Africa are currently locking horns for the 20th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 21 October. Both the teams, England and South Africa have played 3 matches each before in the tournament, and will play their fourth match of the ODI World Cup against each other.

England and South Africa lost their previous matches against Afghanistan and Netherlands by significant margins which has given them a drop in the net run rate.

The South African captain Temba Bavuma has been out of form and has managed to score only 59 runs in the three innings he has played for South Africa with his highest score of 35, which came against Australia. The South African opening batsman Reeza Hendricks has replaced Temba in the team’s playing XI, while the South African T20 captain Aiden Markham will lead the team for the game.

Aiden Markram on Temba Bavuma’s absence from the team

South Africa’s standing captain Aiden  Markham discussed Temba Bavuma’s absence from the team as the captain due to illness during the toss during the team’s match against England. He said, “Temba Bavuma is ill, so Reeza Hendricks comes in. Nice opportunity for him to play. Might be a little bit in it (pitch) during the powerplay. Sort of motivates you a bit. Not focussing too much on it. It’s about reaching those standards set by us. Reeza has been knocking on the door for a while, he comes in. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him”.
