‘Graceful’ World Cup victory’ – Twitter rejoices as England wins their second 20-20 World Cup title after beating Pakistan
England and Pakistan locked horns in the final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Both teams had the opportunity to win their second title in the history of the tournament. The Green Brigade won it for the first time in 2009 while the Three Lions did it in 2010. After a month of hard work, both teams had the opportunity to take the title.
Ahead of the game, the 2019 winners won the toss and elected to bowl first. Their decision proved right as the England bowlers bowled the right lengths throughout the innings and restricted the 2009 winners to 137/8. Talking about the Red Army’s bowling, Sam Curran took three wickets. On the other hand, Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan took two each and Ben Stokes took one.
Talking about Pakistan’s batting, their batters such as skipper Babar Azam, Shan Masood, and vice-captain Shadab Khan got starts but couldn’t get big scores.
Pakistan bowlers fought well but England won comfortably
In reply, the Jos Buttler-led side had a mixed start as they lost three wickets but scored 49 runs. Given the kind of score England was chasing, the early wickets didn’t dent them even a bit. 2019 ODI World Cup hero, Ben Stokes rose to the occasion and made sure the team wins the game. However, his journey wasn’t easy with Pakistan pacers bowling well and exploiting the conditions even with the new ball.
The team was looked in a little of bit trouble as they needed 41 runs off the last five overs. However, after the first ball of the 16th over, Shaheen Afridi pulled out due to resurfaced knee injury. This proved to be a turning point as England batters, Stokes and Moeen Ali scored a few boundaries to bring down the equation. In the end, the team won by five wickets and an over to spare. With this win, England has leveled the West Indies with two 20-20 World Cup titles.
