Paarl Royals overcame Pretoria Capitals in their first encounter in the SA20 2024. The bowling of Paarl meant that they were in the game throughout and ended up winning it. Batting first, Paarl were slow to start as the likes of Jos Buttler and Lubbe could not get going. Jason Roy, David Miller, and M Van Buuren provided impetus for their innings.

But it was the cameo of Andile Phehlukwayo which really changed things for Paarl. What looked like a score of around 145-150 ended up being 160 towards the end. The Southpaw scored 28 runs in 14 balls and helped his side. Pretoria actually bowled well and restricted Paarl to a par score. The wicket was slow and not easy to bat on. Batters could not hit the ball easily in the middle.

The bowlers from Pretoria were all equally good. All of them chipped in with crucial overs. Neither of them bowled exceptionally nor did they bowl badly. Chasing the target, Pretoria never looked to be in the game. The Royals were all over the Capitals right from the start. The bowlers defended the total very well with their economical spells. Batters could not just get going.

Collective bowling efforts seal the game for Paarl Royals

Much like the Capitals, the Royals did not have anyone who bowled exceptionally well. But all the bowlers in the Royals bowled very well. they did not give away easy runs. Tabraiz Shamsi and Andile were brilliant in the middle overs. But the tone was set early in the innings by Lungi Ngidi and Obed McCoy. The duo claimed wickets and sent the batters back to the pavilion quickly.

Barring Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw all the batter struggled to get going. Andile was brilliant with the ball as well. McCoy bowled so well at the death and gave no room whatsoever for the batters. The bowlers managed to stop the threat of the batters even at the fag end of the innings. Paarl registered a big win of 27 runs and started their campaign on a good note.
