After enjoying a short break the Indian team is set to take on England in Lucknow on Sunday. This game holds a lot of significance to both teams as the tournament is moving towards its business end. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has come out and stated his desire to see Ravichandran Ashwin play the game on Sunday.

Hardik Pandya is set for a lengthy lay-off after suffering an injury during the ODI World Cup 2023 game versus Bangladesh. The injury occurred during India’s fourth game of the tournament in Pune. The Indian star is now expected to miss the game versus England as well as likely matches versus Sri Lanka and South Africa.

It will be interesting to see the combination that Rohit Sharma will go in with for the game on Sunday. In the last game versus New Zealand, India had drafted Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav as their two changes.

Ravichandran Ashwin to replace this player for the England game?

Harbhajan Singh was recently speaking live on his YouTube Channel where he said. “Siraj can be rested. He has played back-to-back games. Shami has just come into the playing XI and has claimed a five-fer”

The 43-year-old also said “If a pitch is a normal one and is not expected to offer a lot of turn, then I do not see too many changes in the team. The team that played against New Zealand might be retained. However, India is playing England, so they might want a slow pitch,”

Speaking about the English weakness against spin, Harbhajan Singh asked Rohit Sharma to play three spinners. Afghanistan had gone in with four spinners in their game versus Pakistan in Chennai.

“Kuldeep Yadav’s form has been good, but I wonder if we will get to see three spinners play in the next game – Kuldeep, [Ravindra] Jadeja and Ashwin. It could be a possibility since England does not play spin well. As it is, England is not playing well in the World Cup, and if the ball starts spinning, I don’t think they will be able to do much better. Playing three spinners might not be a bad option” Harbhajan Singh said.

If India wins on Sunday they will officially confirm their place in the final four stages of the ODI World Cup 2023. The men in blue still have games versus Sri Lanka in Mumbai, South Africa in Kolkata, and the Netherlands in Bengaluru.
