Tilak Varma had a fantastic debut against West Indies. The Southpaw scored 39 runs in 22 balls, which included three sixes and two boundaries. The 20-year-old was the only batter from the Indian lineup who applied himself on tricky conditions to bat in Trinidad. Though India lost the match, the young talent impressed everyone with his batsmanship.

Many fans and former cricketers praised the knock of the youngster. A lot of analysts were impressed with the fact that Varma could transition from the Indian Premier League level to the international level in just the first match. Some former cricketers praised the talent as the future of Indian cricket. The commentators were in awe of the Guntur-born cricketer.

RP Singh, the former India player and the winner of the 2007 T20 World Cup, and a giant in domestic cricket, Abhishek Nayar, were in the commentary box in the first T20I. The two were impressed by Varma’s batting. The former Indian cricketers analyzed the batting of Varma and praised him for his talent and execution.

High praises for the youngster from former cricketers

“It was an extremely good knock. I feel the future is hidden in him. We are all searching for a left-handed middle-order batter. Tilak Varma can be seen from that angle. He opened his account with a six and then hit a second six as well. The best six was the third one which he hit over the cover. It is not that easy to hit a six over the cover,” said RP Singh.

“A lot of determination was seen in his batting. It has been his hallmark not just now, but for a long time. The first shot he played against West Indies was good, but it is an extremely difficult shot. He has talent and potential. But the best thing about him is that he is consistent. Once he starts scoring runs, he will keep doing that in all circumstances and conditions. He scores runs in even difficult conditions. So, he is a kid for the future” praised Nayar.
