‘He normally does not do that’ – Rohit Sharma talks about Virat Kohli’s golden duck in 3rd T20I against Afghanistan

Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli

India and Afghanistan encountered for the 3rd match of Afghanistan tour of India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 17 January 2024, which became one of the most dramatic matches in the history of Indian cricket.

The game witnessed two super overs, a smashing century by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and a very rare and unexpected duck by Virat Kohli.

While talking about Virat Kohli’s Duck in the third T20 the Indian captain Rohit Sharma highlighted that the team management needs to give the players a little more clarity about their position in the team, even though they know what is expected from them on the field.

Sharma discussed how Virat usually doesn’t try to go hard in the beginning but he did in this match.

“We only need to give the players clarity about their position and the manner of cricket we want them to play with. The boys know what to expect when they come out onto the ground. As you saw today, Kohli tried to go hard from the word go, he normally does not do that, but he showed the intent. Same with Samson, he was out first ball, but the intent was there,” Rohit told Jio Cinema.

Further in the post-match ceremony, the Indian Skipper talked about the 2 super overs in the game and said, “I don’t remember when was the last time this happened. I think I batted 3 times in one of the IPL games. Creating the partnership was important and we (Rinku and I) kept talking to each other to not lose that intent in big games it was a good game for us to be in, the pressure was there and it was important to bat long and deep and not compromise on the intent we want to show.”

While talking about Rinku Singh, the Indian skipper said, “The last couple of series that he played, he showed what he can do with the bat. He is very calm and knows his strength pretty well. He is coming of age and doing what is expected of him and he has done well for India. Augurs well for the team moving forward, wanted someone like that at the backend and we know what he has done in the IPL and he has carried that to the Indian colours as well.”
