According to former Australia opener Matthew Hayden, former India captain MS Dhoni will like to leave Chennai in the Indian T20 League in grand fashion. Dhoni has been a member of the Chennai franchise since the inaugural season of the Indian T20 League in 2008. In an interview, Hayden claimed that despite keeping the same core set of players, Dhoni has a way of refreshing and reviving a team.

“MS Dhoni has a way of revitalizing, revamping, making it just a completely different look and feels to the side, even though it’s had this great tag of having complete trust in few players and having retained most of their players,” said Hayden.

Matthew Hayden hinted at MS Dhoni’s retirement from the Indian T20 League

He said Dhoni would want to bow out of the Indian T20 League in style with his fans, adding that Chennai’s return to the Chepauk Stadium will be remarkable.

“So for MS Dhoni, I think this year in particular, it’s going to be a year celebrated like no other. It’s the finish, I believe, of the legacy of MS Dhoni, and he will want to go out in style with his fans, who’d want him to go out in style as well. It’s going to be remarkable, just the amount of supporters, the Yellow Army that is going to pile into the Chepauk Stadium,” Hayden added.

He further said ‘Chepauk’ is a fortress for Chennai, adding that no one will forget the upcoming season since they’re returning to their home stadium with Dhoni as their captain, possibly for the last time.

“Their record at home, at Chepauk, is undeniably the best in the Indian T20 League. That venue is a fortress. And they are going to have MS Dhoni as their captain, arguably for the last time, and that’s going to be one of those moments that no one is ever going to forget. He has especially stayed on in the Indian T20 League to say goodbye to his fans at Chepauk, and they are going to turn up like you just couldn’t imagine,” said Hayden.

The schedule for the Indian T20 League was announced earlier by the Indian Cricket Board. Chennai will take on defending champions Gujarat in the opening match of the 2023 season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 31.
