HLTV 2023 CSGO rankings revealed, ZywOo secures top spot

During the recent HLTV award show, one of the Counter-Strike legends, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut was crowned the best player of 2023. ZywOo in the last few years have traded blows with Ukrainian CS player Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev for the top spot. S1mple, who is arguably the player in CS, have been on the top for quite some time with ZywOo as runner-up.
However, his performance in 2023 has managed to secure him the top spot on the HLTV rankings. ZywOo also became the second person to win three awards at HLTV after s1mple himself.
He wasn’t specifically aiming to secure the top rank, but rather to give his best. Speaking to HLTV, ZywOo said, “I must admit that it’s never been my objective like all these years, I’m looking above all to be as consistent as possible for my team and not to be a nuisance for them.”
S1mple on the other hand did not get a chance to perform well between multiple roster swaps and not playing over half of the season. This year saw s1mple in seventh position in the top 20.
Along with ZywOo, there were other players right behind. Some new and some returning faces of CS legends. The HLTV rankings started back in 2010 and have since been an annual tradition of ranking the top 20 players based on their performance.
