Two-time FIFA World Cup winners, Argentina are on the verge of early tournament exit. After losing to 51st-ranked Saudi Arabia, they need to win their upcoming game against Mexico on November 26 to stay alive. Notably, the game will be played a day after late Diego Maradona’s second death anniversary. He died on November 25, 2020. Meanwhile, ahead of the game, Argentina’s Lautero Martinez opened on playing on such an emotional day.

He said that the players keep Maradona in mind. The Inter Milan forward pointed out that the 1986 World Cup winner is not just an important figure in his nation but around the world. Martinez further added that his team hopes to give their fans happiness after winning against Mexico.

“We keep him in mind. He was a very important person in world football, and not just for us Argentines,” said Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.

“Today is a sad day for everyone and hopefully tomorrow we can give happiness.”

“It was difficult but we’re a united group, a strong group that knows what we want, we know about our opponents, we’ve already overcome many things,” said Martinez, who twice had a goal ruled out for offside against the Saudis.

Mexico might not be a pushover for Argentina

In the Southern American derby, the Mexicans won’t be a pushover for the Blue Brigade. After all, they limited Robert Lewandowski‘s Poland to a goalless draw. However, the former champions can take comfort in the fact a lot of goals against the Saudis were deemed as offside. However, they would need to work on this issue and do better against Mexico which might be easier said than done. On the other hand, the team would be looking to keep themselves alive in the competition.
