Reece James showed his devotion to Chelsea by responding directly to a fan when asked if he would join Arsenal. James’ reaction has been praised by Twitter users. On Wednesday, Arsenal announced the signing of James’ Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz in a £65 million deal.  Arsenal supporters expecting James will follow the German to north London will be disappointed as he responded bluntly on Twitter to the proposal.

James came up through the Blues’ youth academies. He has made 147 appearances for the club since making his first-team debut in 2019, scoring 11 times and has 20 assists to his name. Despite an injury-plagued season in which he only scored twice and assisted twice in 24 games, James’ reaction demonstrated that he is a Blue at heart.

I say no: Reece James

A Twitter user said, “Who says no to James joining the Gunners?” James left a comment under the tweet, stating “I say no.” Chelsea then responded to James’ tweet by saying: ‘One of our own’, with a blue heart emoji.

Chelsea has already seen the departures of N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz, Eduardo Mendy, Mateo Kovacic, and others this summer. Kovacic has joined Manchester City, the triple winners in 2022-23. The Croatian international was an important player for the Blues, appearing in 221 games, scoring six goals and supplying 15 assists. With Stamford Bridge, Kovacic also won the UEFA Champions League.

Havertz scored the game-winning goal in the Champions League final against Manchester City, but he will be playing for Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal next season after a £65 million move to the Emirates Stadium.

Upon signing for Arsenal, Havertz said: “It’s super exciting for me to be joining this amazing club and to be part of the Arsenal family. This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things. The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently.”

Timber’s signing is a wise one because he can play both right-back and center-back, like Ben White. He will be a good alternative for the Gunners and Timber adds some much-needed technical skill to the back line as well. With senior players Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey potentially leaving, further reinforcements may be needed with a demanding Premier League and Champions League season ahead.
