 ‘Hurrreeee jeet gayea’ – Fans react as India demolish Nepal by 10 wickets in Asia Cup 2023 clash

After the first match was called off due to rain against Pakistan, India locked horns with Nepal in their second and last match of the group stage, played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue won the match by 10 wickets and Rohit Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.

If we talk about the match, the Men in Blue skipper, Rohit won the toss and elected to bow first. Nepal while batting first was bundled out for 230 runs in the 48.2 overs they played in the first innings. The highest scorer for the side was their opener, Aasif Sheikh who scored 58 runs off 97 balls with eight fours in his innings. Sompal Kami also scored crucial 48 runs from 56 balls which included one four and two sixes in his innings.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill guide India to victory 

For India, the pick of the bowlers was Mohammad Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja who snapped three wickets each in their respective spells of 9.2 overs and 10 overs respectively. Where one side Siraj conceded 61 runs in his spell whereas on the other hand, Jadeja conceded 40 runs in his spell. One wicket each was grabbed by Mohammad Shami, Hardik Pandya, and Shardul Thakur in their respective spells where they conceded 29 runs, 34 runs, and 26 runs respectively in their spells.

The rain interrupted the chase for Team India. Due to rain, the target was revised. The Rohit Sharma-led side needed 145 runs to chase down in the allotted 23 overs of their innings. The Men in Blue chased down the target on the first ball of the 21st over. The Indian openers, Rohit, and Shubman Gill completed the chase for their side.

Where on one side, the 36-year-old played an unbeaten knock of 74 runs from 59 balls which included six fours and five sixes in his innings on the other hand, Gill scored unbeaten 67 runs off 62 balls with eight fours and a six in his innings. Both of them built a partnership of 147 runs and this was their third 100-run partnership for India.
