Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been dropped from the Australian squad for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. As the rumours regarding his retirement were surfacing, Stoinis cleared it out that as of now, he has no intentions of taking a retirement. He is fine with the selector’s decision and also said that Aaron Hardie’s inclusion in the team is probably for the best.

While talking to ESPNcricinfo, Stoinis said, “I’ve got no intention of retiring from international cricket or anything like that. I think it makes complete sense. He’s been playing brilliantly. He also needs to be exposed in international cricket which I think he’s ready for. I’ll be going to South Africa to play for my IPL franchise Lucknow over there which Cricket Australia has been in the loop with the whole time. So I think all makes sense to be honest”.

Stoinis was dropped from the team during the World Cup as well because of his inconsistent performance. After BBL, he will be playing for the Durban Supergiants in SA20. Before the World Cup kicks in, Stoinis will play the IPL and hope to make a mark in the tournament. If he is successful in doing that, he might earn a place in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad.

‘I’ve got every intention to play T20 cricket for Australia,’ says Stoinis as the T20 World Cup approaches

Considering the fact that the T20 World Cup is in less than five months, all the teams will want to make the most out of the matches they will play before the World Cup. As Marcus Stoinis, Australia’s pacer is out of the ODI squad, he is hopeful to make a comeback in the T20 squad. He is quite certain of his choices and wants to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“I’ve got every intention to play T20 cricket for Australia as long as I can, as long as they want me. I feel like my international and T20 [franchise] cricket has been good over the last whatever period. And I’ve got a great relationship with the boys in the team and also with the likes of Timmy David and Wadey [Matthew Wade] and Ingo [Josh Inglis], that group that bat in the middle order, which I think is what we’re trying to nurture as a team to build towards the big tournaments,” Stoinis said.
