Ambati Rayudu, a former cricket player who, recently, retired, made a surprising statement. Rayudu stated in an exclusive interview with TV9 Telugu that he was invited to train for the 2019 World Cup by the Indian Cricket Board.

“I had some issues with the member of the selection committee when I was playing with them in the early stages of my career, which might be one of the reasons why I was out of the team in World Cup 2019,” Rayudu was quoted as saying on TV9 Telugu.

Regarding India’s World Cup performance in 2019, they were knocked out early from the competition for the second time in a row after losing to New Zealand in the semifinals. Virat Kohli‘s team seemed to be heading to the Grand Finale after limiting the Kiwis to 239 runs in the first innings. After their top three batters failed to score more than one run each, the Indians were always going to have trouble.

I would like really like to take this movement to really thank my family: Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu retired from professional cricket after the Chennai Super Kings won the IPL in 2023. Speaking about the match, Chennai Super Kings overcame Gujarat Titans in the rain-shortened IPL final game in Ahmedabad to win their fifth championship.

Sai Sudharsan scored 96, while the Titans established a record with 214. During the Super Kings’ chase’s first over, the rain started to pour, causing a delay of more than two hours. Eventually, Super Kings finished the revised chase of 171 runs off 15 overs thanks to a four by Ravindra Jadeja off the last ball.

Ambati Rayudu, who was accorded special attention by CSK players on the occasion of his departure to the beautiful game, spoke following the victory: “Yes, it’s a fairy-tale finish. I couldn’t have asked for more. I mean it’s unbelievable. Fortunate to have played in really great sides and this is one of the sides. [On the importance of this, his final game] I can smile for the rest of my life. All the hard work for the last 30 years. I’m just happy that it finished on this night. I would like really like to take this movement to really thank my family. My father specially.”
