The 34-year-old Indian star batter Virat Kohli seemed thrilled as the Apex Cricket Council issued the much-anticipated schedule for the World Cup 2023 competition, which would be held in India starting on October 5. India’s campaign will officially get underway on the 8th of October in Chennai as they face the first match against Australia.

Notably, India is staging the 50-over World Cup on its own for the very first time. They had earlier hosted the competition in 1987, 1996, and 2011 alongside other sub-continental countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

The former skipper has expressed his take on the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 schedule, which will be important to the hosts as the Men in Blue last lifted a major trophy in 2013 in England. On top of that, the 2011 World Cup champ, Kohli, has chosen the World Cup venue in which he will be most excited to play. The 34-year-old has named Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai “Personally, I’m looking forward to playing in Mumbai. It’d be great to experience that atmosphere again,” Kohli told the Apex Cricket Council.

How special it is to play a home world cup and how excited they are going to be: Virat Kohli

Meanwhile, India’s spectacular triumph over Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final took place at the Wankhede Stadium. In the finale, Kohli batted in the fourth position and produced an effective inning with 35 runs. Moreover, his 83-run third-wicket partnership with Gautam Gambhir was critical for helping India survive the early pressure, especially following the walks of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

Kohli reminisced on that special occasion, admitting how young he was at the time and the enormous impact that the win made on the team’s veteran players. “I was quite young then. I saw what it meant to the seniors. I can understand what they went through and how special it is to play a home world cup and how excited they are going to be,” Kohli added.
