‘India ke against dekh lenge’ – Fans react as Pakistan beat Nepal by 238 runs in inaugural match of Asia Cup 2023

Pakistan beat Nepal by 238 runs and won the inaugural match of the 2023 Asia Cup in Multan. The result was in the expected lines and has not come out any different. Pakistan won the game by a big margin and showed why they are the world’s number one ODI side. With the win, Pakistan have moved to the top of the points table in the group A. The win will give a good confidence to Pakistan. 

On a good pitch to bat on, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. At one point in time, Pakistan was in trouble. After 6.1 overs, Pakistan was reduced to 25/2. Nepal got rid of the opening duo of Pakistan quickly. What followed was a quick recovery from Pakistan. The experienced duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scored 86 runs for the third wicket. 

Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed scored hundreds

The dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan led to the arrival of Agha Salman, who scored only 5 runs in 14 balls. Till that point, the game was in a balance. From there, the hosts completely dominated the game. Iftikhar Ahmed joined Babar Azam and damaged the bowlers with his aggressive batting. Both the batters in the middle got to their hundreds and gave the upper hand for Pakistan. 

While Babar Azam scored 151(131), Iftikhar scored a brisk 109(71) and helped them score 342 runs in their 50 overs. The duo took the game away from Nepal completely. 343 was never going to be easy for Nepal, especially against an attack featuring Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Nawaz, and Shadab Khan. 

Nepal never looked comfortable in the chase. The pressure of chasing the big total just got the better of Nepal batters. The Pakistani bowlers chipped in with wickets constantly and kept Nepal out of the game. In the end, the Men in Green restricted Nepal to a total of just 104 runs. Babar Azam won the Player of the Match award.
