This is the first time these two teams will be facing each other in the history of the tournament. Lucknow will be looking to build a strong legacy of themselves defeating the 4-time champions in the very first meeting. Let’s have a look at the important details of the match.

Team News

Lucknow: Lucknow lost their first match of the tournament against the other newly introduced franchise , Gujarat. The match was a thrilling one and Gujarat snatched away victory from Lucknow’s grasp in the last few overs of the contest. Fans and experts all pointed out the strategic flaws on part of the Lucknow skipper, KL Rahul. The team will be looking to cover up the flaws from the last match and come back strong.

Unavailable Players: Overseas all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder will be unavailable for selection owing to national duties.

Probable XI: KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock (WK) (O), Evin Lewis (O), Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Mohsin Khan, Dushmantha Chameera (O), Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan.

Players to watch out for

KL Rahul: After a golden duck in the first match the skipper of Lucknow will be desperate to come back strong. His batting is going to be important in deciding the fate of the match.

Deepak Hooda: The last match against Gujarat was a roller coaster ride for Hooda. From being a hero during batting to being the man conceding 22 runs at a crucial juncture, the tables turned very quickly for him. He will look to perform strongly against Chennai also.

Ayush Badoni: The youngster was the find of the match for Lucknow in their last encounter. The team will hope that he performs well if they find themselves in trouble again.

Dushmantha Chameera: Chennai in the last match fell prey to the brilliant swing bowling of Umesh Yadav. In Lucknow’s first match Dushmantha Chameera was brilliant with the new ball, so the team will hope that he gives them a similar start.

Chennai: Chennai put up the most unimpressive show with the bat in their first match against Kolkata. The top order looked susceptible to quality swing bowling while the middle order looked like they have no idea what they need to do. The bowling of the ‘Men in Yellow’ also looked like lacking proper penetration. The only positive for Chennai in the first match was their former skipper MS Dhoni. Moeen Ali will be available for selection from this match as he has completed his mandatory quarantine period.

Unavailable Players: Deepak Chahar will be the only major absence.

Probable XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway (O), Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja(C), MS Dhoni (WK), Moeen Ali (O), Rajvardhan Hangrekar, Dwayne Bravo (O), Adam Milne (O), Tushar Deshpande.

Players to watch out for

Ruturaj Gaikwad: After failing in the last match the elegant opener will look to come back strong in the next match and give his team a solid start.

MS Dhoni: Dhoni has got a brilliant start to this season The fans will be hoping that ‘Thala’ continues his good form.

Ravindra Jadeja: To say the least Ravindra Jadeja looked nervous and puzzled in the first match in his new role of captaincy. The fans will want him to return to being himself and perform strongly with bat and ball.

Moeen Ali: With Moeen Ali being available for selection and Chennai will hope that he resurrects his role of being the aggressive top order batsman.

Pitch Report: In the only match that has still now been played at Brabourne, the pitch looked a sporty one. 356 runs were scored in the first match in total and 11 wickets fell in the match. So, it has a bit for everyone as 5 of the 11 wickets were picked by spinner while the rest were taken by pacers. The same can be expected in the second match at the venue and as for the trend, this season the captain winning the toss might look to field first.
