Chennai and Bangalore locked horns in the 22nd match of the Indian T20 League 2022. The match was a high-scoring thriller as 409 runs were scored in it. The scoreboard might not tell the truth about how close the game was.

Bangalore won the toss and as per expectations decided to field first. Chennai once again had a rocky start to their innings. They lost two early wickets and were 36 for 2 down inside the first 7 overs of the match. Shivam Dube joined Robin Uthappa in the middle and the duo staged an epic from this stage. They steadied the innings first and slowly guided Chennai to 60 for 2 at the 10th over mark. As the two got an idea of the playing conditions they started butchering the Bangalore bowlers. It appeared as if whatever Dube and Uthappa were touching was going for a boundary. Uthappa was finally dismissed in the 19th over of the innings by Wanindu Hasaranga for 88 runs off 50 deliveries. He hit 9 sixes and 4 fours in his knock. Shivam Dube however continued his onslaught till the end of the innings. He remained unbeaten on 95 off 46 deliveries hitting 8 sixes and 5 fours. Chennai reached a mammoth total of 216 runs in their 20 overs. Hasaranga picked up two wickets for Bangalore, while Josh Hazlewood got a wicket to his name.

Chennai started their defense of the huge total on a great note. They got Bangalore down to 50 for 4 in just 7 overs. The three main pillars of the Bangalore batting lineup Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell were already back in the pavilion. The hopes were diming for Bangalore, but the young Suyash Prabhudessai was not going down without a fight. He scored 34 off 18 deliveries and provided Bangalore with much-needed momentum. Suyash was dismissed in the 13th over of the innings with Bangalore at 110 runs. Dinesh Karthik walked out in the middle and Bangalore was hoping for another unreal effort from their experienced finisher. In the 15th over of the innings Mahessh Theeksana picked up Shabaz Ahmed, who played an important knock of 41 runs off 27 deliveries. After the end of the over Bangalore was 140 for 6 requiring 77 runs of last five overs, with Karthik still in the middle. The men in red were hoping for another special effort from their finisher to take them to victory. Karthik began his carnage by smashing Mukesh Choudhary for 23 runs in the 17th over and the balance of the match was shifting again. But it was Dwayne Bravo who put an end to Bangalore’s hopes as he picked up Karthik in the 18th over. Karthik scored 34 off 14 deliveries hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours, but his efforts went in vain. The Men in Red finished with a total of 193 runs form their 20 overs losing the match by 23 runs. Chennai won for the first time in this year’s Indian T20 League and ended their 4 match losing streak.
