The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai hosted the 8th match of the Indian T20 League between Punjab and Kolkata. The match changed colors in matter of moments as Andre Russell switched on the beast mode.
Kolkata won the toss and decided to field. Umesh Yadav starred with the new bowl once again. He picked up Mayank Agarwal and gave a rude shock to the Punjab batting order very early. Bhanuka Rajapaksa looked to counterattack the Kolkata bowlers but fell to Shivam Mavi for 31 runs off 9 deliveries. After that Punjab never revived and kept losing wickets throughout the innings. Rabada made a valuable lower-order contribution scoring 25 off 16 deliveries. Punjab was ultimately bowled out for 137 runs in their 19th over. Umesh Yadav finished with 4 wickets from 4 overs conceding 23 runs. The fans were ecstatic to see the Indian pace perform the way he has for three consecutive matches.
Kolkata came out to chase down a moderate target and did everything wrong possible at the beginning. Rahane was dismissed in the second over of the innings for 12 runs. Rahul Chahar came into the attack and picked up two important wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana in the 7th over. Kolkata was 51 for 4 down when Russell walked in. The hopes of the men in purple rested on their ‘Hulk’. Russell then what he does best, ‘Smash’ the bowlers. he scored 70 off 31 deliveries hitting 8 sixes in the process. Sam Billings accompanied him scoring 24 off 23 deliveries. Kolkata won the match by 6 wickets with 33 balls in hand. The fans were delighted to be a witness of the ‘Russell’ show.
