After a win in their first match against Chennai, Kolkata saw the tables turned in the second match against Bangalore. Even after a tough fight they lost the match. While there were quite a few positives for Kolkata to take form the match, specially in the bowling department, Kolkata will look to mend their batting woes evident in the match and comeback strong. Here are three reasons why Kolkata lost the match against Bangalore.

1. Non-Resilient Top Order: As Kolkata was asked to bat first by Bangalore, the batters just fell to show resilience. None of the batters looked to stay in the crease, spend some time and soak up the pressure. Wickets kept tumbling for them and they fell way short of a par score. The batting order looked vulnerable to both pace and spin. Kolkata might take a lesson form the Bangalore innings. When the pressure was on the Bangalore batting line up David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford decided to dig in and spend some time at the crease. As the pressure released, they took the attack on the Kolkata bowlers and laid the platform for the chase. Kolkata missed the resilience and patience in their batting effort.

2. Lack of Intent in the middle overs: Even after having picked up three wickets in the powerplay, Shreyas Iyer opened up the field immediately after the sixth over. Except a slip and a short a mid-on no other close in fielders were visible. The situation demanded that he built more pressure on the batters with men around the bat. With the field open the batters rotated the strike easily and with occasional boundaries kept the required run rate within reach. So, a lack of intent in the middle overs let match slip away slowly from Kolkata.

3. One Dimensional Bowling: The bowling attack of Kolkata looks like they are just playing for the powerplays. Apparently, their fuel end as the ball stops swinging. With the new ball the bowling attack looks very potent but after that the bite seems to die down. Kolkata will have to try and find a way to be more multi-dimensional in case of their bowling. They will have to find ways to be more penetrative in the middle and death overs.
