2024 started with a triumphant roar from the Indian cricket team. After a humbling defeat in Johannesburg at the tail end of 2023, they bounced back grandly, rewriting history in the New Year’s Test. Bowling out South Africa for a mere 55, India chased down the target effortlessly, clinching the shortest Test match ever in emphatic style. This crucial victory not only silenced critics but also levelled the two-match series, proving their resilience and adaptability on foreign soil.

The Indian cricket team has continued their winning streak, dominating the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. They have secured an unassailable lead with convincing victories in both games so far, putting themselves in a prime position to clinch the series. This dominant performance bodes well for the team’s confidence as there are plenty of challenging games ahead for the team.

India take the field against Afghanistan in Bengaluru today, hungry to paint the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with the colours of a series sweep. After this, India will play a 5-match Test series against Ben Stokes’ England at home. The series which will start on January 25, will run till March 11th. Having dominated Test cricket at home for more than a decade, India will look to maintain the streak.

India’s 2024 cricket journey: IPL, T20 World Cup, and Aussie Test Challenge

The Test series will be followed by the cash-rich Indian Premier League, the schedule of which is yet to be released. The schedule has been delayed as the Indian Cricket Board is coordinating with the Election Commission of India to ensure that the dates and venues do not clash. India’s biggest assignment of the year will kick off immediately after the IPL- the T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA. Having failed to win a major trophy for more than 10 years, India will be determined to put up a good show and emerge victorious under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

In July, India will pay a visit to Sri Lanka for a white-ball tour comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. Surprisingly, these are the only set of ODIs that India will play in 2024. September and October see India play hosts once again, welcoming Bangladesh and New Zealand for a bilateral Test series. These encounters offer valuable preparation for the year-end tour and a chance to experiment with different combinations. The year culminates in a massive tour of Australia for a five-match Test series. Having conquered the Aussies on their home turf twice in a row, India faces a monumental task to repeat the feat. This gruelling tour will be a true test of their character, resilience, and adaptability.

As the year unfolds, Indian cricket fans will be glued to their screens, cheering for their heroes and hoping for moments of glory. Will India maintain their home dominance, lift the coveted World Cup trophy, and create history Down Under? The answers lie in the exciting journey that awaits in 2024. So, buckle up, cricket lovers, and get ready for a year of unforgettable cricketing action.
