India lock horns with West Indies in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series in Windsor Park, Dominica. The visitors hold the upper hand in the game after the end of play on Day 2 with a healthy lead. India scored 312 runs for the loss of two wickets with Virat Kohli and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal on the crease. Jaiswal is batting on 143 runs with 14 fours, while former India skipper, Kohli is batting on 36 with one four in his innings.

India started the second day at 80 for no loss. Openers Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal put up an exceptional partnership of 229 runs before the skipper was sent back to the pavilion by off-spinner Alick Athanaze after scoring a brilliant century. He scored 103 runs before going back to the dressing room which included 10 fours and two sixes in his innings.

I enjoy the situation when the ball swings and seams: Yashasvi Jaiswal

On the first day, West Indies were able to bat only 64 overs. The star bowler for the Indian side was their veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who snapped a fifer in his spell of 24.3 overs where he conceded 60 runs and bowled six maiden overs. Three wickets were taken by Ravindra Jadeja in his spell of 14 overs, conceding just 26 runs. One wicket each was grabbed by the pace duo of Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj.

“I think this is one of the emotional knocks for me, it’s difficult to get opportunities in the Indian team, I would like to thank everyone, the supporters, team management, and Rohit Bhai. The pitch is on the slower side and the outfield is very slow, it was difficult and challenging, it was pretty hot and I wanted to keep doing it for my country, just play ball-by-ball and enjoy my cricket,” Jaiswal was quoted as saying after the end of play on Day 2.

“I love Test cricket, I like this challenge, I enjoy the situation when the ball swings and seams. We have worked hard on everything, I’ve just gone out to express myself. Was an emotional moment (on his century), was just proud of myself, thankful for everyone, this is just a start and I want to do well going further,” the left-hand batter asserted.
