Sarfaraz Khan, known for his good performances in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy, has received his long-awaited national team call-up for India’s Test series against England after KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out of the Vizag Test due to injury. This call-up has piqued the interest of many former cricketers, particularly given the player’s strong domestic performance in recent months.

With star batters like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja out for the second Test, Sarfaraz Khan appears to have a good chance of fighting for his spot in the national squad, provided he takes advantage of the opportunity and sets an example for other young domestic cricketers in India. Among the numerous experts and former cricketers, Irfan Pathan was one of those who realised the potential effect of Sarfaraz’s selection.

At the Asian Legends League Season 1 launch ceremony in Delhi, Irfan Pathan expressed his excitement at the young batter’s selection for the national squad.

“When he got selected I was happy, but I was also happy for Saurabh Kumar who has also been performing for years in the domestic circuit.” Irfan Pathan said on Sarfaraz’s selection for the England Test series.

Irfan Pathan emphasized India should provide more opportunities to young players

However, Irfan Pathan acknowledged the difficulty that the India team captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid will face in assembling a balanced lineup with the appropriate mix, given the addition of these new players as substitutes.

Pathan even emphasized the necessity of providing young players the opportunity to represent India and how this will eventually benefit the squad in the long term. The 39-year-old also discussed the increased strain that would be placed on the Indian team following their defeat to England in the first Test in Hyderabad.

India will face England in their second Test in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2, hoping to recover from the terrible memories of Hyderabad, and we may even see Sarfaraz Khan make his India debut, something he has longed and worked hard for.
