In place of their typical red and black kit, Royal Challengers Bangalore will wear a green shirt against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, April 23 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). To promote a greener and more sustainable environment, the Bengaluru-based squad has worn the green shirt once a season since 2011. It appears to be a component of the franchise’s “Go Green” campaign.

In IPL 2021, RCB chose to wear a blue kit instead of a green one as a way to honour the frontline personnel for their commitment and work during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The players would be eager to leave their imprint in the unique jersey as RCB are back with the green colour.

RCB has a dismal track record in the green kit

Over the years, RCB’s green uniform has been warmly accepted by supporters, and it has won recognition for its creative strategy for leveraging the sport of cricket to spread awareness of environmental issues. The team has made most of its opportunity to wear the green jersey during games to increase environmental protection, sustainability, and conservation awareness.

The Bangalore franchise tweeted the following information regarding their green game in the IPL 2023: “Green Game will be played on April 23, against Rajasthan Royals at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Our special green jerseys are made of 100% recycled material, and you can now get your hands on them on the RCB Website and App. #PlayBold #ನಮ್ #IPL2023 #GoGreen”

12 IPL games have so far been played by Royal Challengers Bangalore wearing green uniforms. They have a dismal track record in those games, with only three victories while losing eight times. When Bangalore last wore the green jersey in the IPL 2018, the Rajasthan Royals defeated Bangalore by 19 runs.

Currently, Royal Challengers Bangalore are placed seventh in the league standings with just one win from three games. They will next face the winless Delhi Capitals in their home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and look to return to winning ways.
