‘It was just a badly executed on-drive’ – Sunil Gavaskar bashes 24-year-old for throwing away his wicket in India vs England 1st Test match

Sunil Gavaskar bashes Shubman Gil.

Sunil Gavaskar, the former India legend, bashed the 24-year-old Shubman Gil as he gave away his wicket easily during India vs England’s first Test series in Hyderabad. As he departed after scoring 26 runs, Gavaskar slammed him for his careless batting approach and questioned his shot selection. After scoring 14 runs overnight, Gill did spend some time on the field at the start of day 2. However, after spending a few minutes, he gave away his wicket to the debutant, Tom Hartley.

Gavaskar during commentary said, “What kind of a shot was he looking to play? One can understand if he was looking to play it in the air but it was just a badly executed on-drive. He did all the hard work and then played a shot like that.”

Three of the Indian batters lost their wicket before scoring a century. The list started with Yashasvi Jaiswal getting out on 80, then KL Rahul went on 86 and following him, Ravindra Jadeja gave away his wicket on 87 runs. These innings will always be remembered as the players missed their well-deserved century while playing selfless games for their team.

‘We’re happy, unbelievable knock by Ollie’ – Zak Crawley after Ollie Pope’s wonderful knock

At the end of day 3, England lead the game by 114 runs. The openers did a wonderful job by giving the team a great start. Then, after Zak Crawley’s wicket went, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope took the visitor’s game to a whole new level. They batted for almost 10 overs and put pressure on the Indian bowling. However, with Bumrah’s brilliant ball, Duckett was dismissed. It was a sigh of relief for India as the batters came and went after that, except one. Ollie Pope played one of his best innings of 148 runs off 208 balls. After the match, Crawley came in and praised his teammate for a wonderful knock.

Crawley said, “We’re happy, unbelievable knock by Ollie. Few more runs in the morning it could be a tricky chase. (Talk before the start of the innings) Bat like the first innings, the batters did that really well, very pleased. (On getting out to Ashwin twice) He bowled a nice ball today, he’s allowed to do that. nothing changes for me. We can learn a lot from Ollie. It was something we have grown up with (playing sweeps and reverse-sweeps), it’s a nice way to put them off their lengths.”
