‘It’s difficult to return to a normal sleep schedule, It’s not easy’ – Iga Swiatek on playing night matches
The Poland Open Title-Winner Iga Swiatek recently opened up on the hardships faced by tennis players as they constantly play 2-3 matches on an everyday basis during tournaments.
During a recent interview with the Tennis Channel, the number one spot holder Iga Swiatek discussed that she never minds playing on court number considering she has a good night of sleep, but gets terrified and exhausted with the idea that her next matches are scheduled during the night and she wouldn’t be able to have a sound sleep.
Iga Swiatek also talked about how her opponent Aryna discussed with her, the reason behind her loss in the first round against Rome due to lack of sleep. Aryna told Iga how she felt exhausted after playing again, on the first day, after competing against each other. Iga also accepted how playing in the second shift (at night) was also not a great idea since she herself felt quite exhausted due to a lack of a normal sleep schedule.

“Sometimes it is healthy to play earlier. I wouldn’t mind playing on Court Number two if I could just have a regular night and normal recovery after the match, because one match like that is fine, and I don’t mind it. But four matches? Your entire sleep routine is getting disrupted a little bit, and it’s difficult to return to a normal sleep schedule. It’s not easy. I wish it could be,” said Iga Swiatek during an interview with Tennis Channel.
“Again, after Madrid, when I played the final against Aryna and we both played Rome, she played on the first day because I requested the second. She lost in the first round. She honestly said she was exhausted and was not able to play. I played the next day, and as you could see throughout the tournament, it was not a great choice either because all of my matches were scheduled second, you know, night session,” added Iga Swiatek.
