The Indian T20 League 2022 began with a clash between Chennai and Kolkata. There was a lot of hype ahead of the match. But much to the disappointments of fans and supporters, the match turned out to be a one-sided affair.
Chennai was asked to bat first by the Kolkata skipper Shreyas Iyer. As Umesh Yadav bowled a brilliant first over, dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai never recovered from it. Except MS Dhoni, none of the Chennai batters looked positive. Chennai just managed to score 131 runs in their 20 overs. Kolkata chased down the target very easily with 6 wickets in hand and 9 balls to spare. Rahane was the top scorer for Kolkata.
Nervous Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja was leading the Chennai team for the first time. The all-rounder looked under pressure with the responsibility. While batting, it looked like he is curbing his instincts. In the end, Jadeja played a scratchy knock of 26 runs from 28 deliveries. This resulted in Chennai’s innings finishing at a below-par total.
In the second innings also Jadeja did not seem to be proactive as a leader. It appeared that he was confused as to what to do as the captain. While Kolkata was running away with the game in the powerplay overs, Jadeja did not do anything different to strike an early blow.
The fans noted Jadeja’s nervousness and took to Twitter commenting about it. The fans felt that Jadeja was more dependent on the former skipper Dhoni to make the decisions. He never seemed like actively taking charge of the team and it was as if he was waiting for things to happen than trying to make them happen.
