The Indian Cricket Board has a feather on its cap. The secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah, bagged the Sports Business Leader of the Year Award 2023. For the launch of the Women’s Premier League earlier this year and then for conducting the record-breaking ODI World Cup 2023 successfully, Jay got the award. The Indian Cricket Board shared the same on X.

“CONGRATULATIONS to Indian Cricket Board Honorary Secretary @JayShah on being awarded the Sports Business Leader of the Year Award at the @FollowCII Sports Business Awards 2023. A first for any leader in Indian Sports administration, this recognition is truly deserved!” wrote the Indian Cricket Board on their handle in X, as they congratulated Jay for his achievement. Jay became the first ever Indian to receive any such award.

Jay not only handles the role of being the secretary of the Indian cricket board but also has the responsibility of being the president of the Asian Cricket Council, which conducted the Asia Cup 2023 in September. Before assuming bigger roles, Shah served as the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). The latest award is an honour for India, given the successful hosting of the ODI World Cup 2023.

First Indian to receive sports management award

Under the tenure of Jay, Indian cricket has seen massive steps in the last year. The Indian Cricket Board announced pay parity for men’s and women’s cricket. The Indian Cricket Board played a key role in helping cricket to be a part of the Olympics after 128 long years. The Women’s IPL became a reality and the ODI World Cup 2023 saw a huge success, as far as the viewership online and offline is concerned.

In the ODI World Cup 2023, a record-breaking attendance was witnessed. A total of 1.25 million people attended the event in the stadiums. Over 518 million watched the match on online streaming platforms, which is also a new record. Shah became the first ever Indian in any sports management to receive an award for Sports Business management.
