‘Jhuk ke rehna padega Delhi ke aage’- Fans react as Delhi Capital beat Royal Challegers Bangalore by 25 runs in WPL 2024

It is time to fasten your seatbelts as things are starting to look interesting in the Women’s Premier League(WPL) 2024. The Delhi Capitals have suddenly made a great comeback after losing their first game against the Mumbai Indians. The Capitals had already taken control of the game after putting up a total of 194 in the first innings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB). Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey set the tone for them and the all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen provided the finishing touches.

The RCB batters also started well with the openers putting on 77 for the first wicket. Despite the efforts of Smriti Mandhana, the total turned out to be too much for the home side. The Delhi Bowling attack did well to restrict the batters and managed to finally win the game by 25 runs. This was the first loss for the women in red in the season, which makes the tournament interesting going forward.

Marizanne Kapp’s all-round performance

Today was the day when South Africa veteran all-rounder Marizanne Kapp proved to be an impactful performer. Her cameo of 32 from 16 kept the Capitals innings alive and made sure that they reached a big total. Her contribution to the ball cannot be set aside as well. She set the game for her team by getting the crucial wickets of Smriti Mandhana and the hard-hitting Richa Ghosh. This was a solid all-round performance from the 34-year-old pace bowling all-rounder which was enough to adjudge her as the player of the match.

This win by the Capitals has officially put the Capitals on top of the table. Even after that early loss, they have proven to be one of the most dangerous sides in the league. Beating RCB at their home ground is never an easy thing to do especially while defending a total. The Delhi Capitals have started to give some dominating performances and will once again be the favourites.
