Jofra Archer suffers another injury, ruled out of English summer
In what has come as a big blow to England Cricket, Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the 2022 English summer due to a stress fracture in his lower back. The England seamer hasn’t been playing the game for a long time as injuries continue to hamper his cricket career.
For the unversed, Jofra Archer last represented England in March 2021. Archer was gearing up to announce his comeback with Sussex in the upcoming T20 Blast. He was set to be part of the side for the opening fixture against Glamorgan. However, after being diagnosed with a back injury, he has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
“No timeframe has been set for his return,” a statement read. “A management plan will be determined following further specialist opinion over the coming days.”
In the last 14 months, Archer has undergone as many as 3 surgeries. The England seamer was undergoing rehabilitation during England tour of West Indies. Recently, Archer was also picked by Mumbai franchise for the Indian T20 League. He couldn’t participate for the franchise for the ongoing season but was expected to turn up for the franchise in 2022.
However, with the pacer suffering from another injury, it is uncertain whether he will be part of Mumbai for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. Archer now joins the list of other English fast bowlers who are unavailable for the upcoming Test series due to their respective injuries.
“It’s definitely a concern and trying to find out why this is happening is something that we need to look into,” Rob Key, England’s managing director of men’s cricket, said on Wednesday. “We need to make sure that hopefully, it never happens again. But as you know with all fast bowlers, these unfortunately are the things that do happen – stress fractures in particular.”
England are set to play a three-match Test series against New Zealand at home, starting from 2nd June 2022. The series will be held from 2nd June to 23rd June 2022.
