Kapil Dev disappointed with Virat Kohli’s ‘not brave enough’ statement, asks MS Dhoni to talk to players
Former India cricketer Kapil Dev is mighty disappointed with India skipper Virat Kohli’s comments where he stated that India was not brave enough in their approach to the game. Kapil termed Kohli’s statement as weak and urged Ravi Shastri and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to lift the morale of the team.
“Obviously, it’s a very weak statement from a player as big as Virat Kohli. We all know and we believe that he has the hunger and desire to win games for the team,” he told ‘ABP News.
Kapil said if the thought process of the skipper is negative, it will be very difficult to lift the mood of the players in the remaining games. “But, if the body language of the team and thought process of the captain is like this, it’s very difficult to lift the mood of the players inside the dressing room,” he added.
“I would urge my friend Shastri and Dhoni to lift the team in this scenario, it is Dhoni’s job to talk to players and give them confidence,” he added.
Two back to back losses have put India’s campaign in jeopardy. They now need to win all their remaining games with big margins to have any hopes of qualifying for the semifinals. Even that would not guarantee them a place in the knockouts as they will need some other results to go their way. Kapil said it is never a good situation to be dependent on other teams for qualification.
“If we have to go through based on somebody else’s performance, then I don’t like it. If you have to be in the semis, do it on your own merit. I don’t think it is a good idea to place your hopes on anyone else,” he added.
