KKR skipper Nitish Rana explains what makes Suyash Sharma special post his performance against RCB
Kolkata Knight Riders have registered a convincing victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore after losing their first game to Punjab Kings. In their second game of the season at the KKR won by a huge margin of 81 runs to get back to their winning ways in IPL 2023.
Shardul Thakur was awarded player of the match for his fiery knock of 68 runs of just 29 balls, as KKR posted 204 for 7 despite losing 5 wickets under 100 runs. After that, Varun Chakravarthy did wonders with the ball by taking 4 wickets, including big fishes like the skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell.
Apart from that, a young spinner caught everyone’s attention with his bowling in yesterday’s match. Suyash Sharma, who was playing his debut IPL match, came as an impact player of KKR in place of Venkatesh Iyer and went to take 3 wickets dismissing Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat, and Karn Sharma as RCB got bowled out for 123 runs in 17.4 overs.
‘I knew Suyash would be effective…’ – Nitish Rana
KKR skipper Nitish Rana applauded the 19-year-old for his bowling stating that he is a ‘dangerous spinner.’ Rana also said Suyahs is an x-factor for KKR.
“I knew Suyash would be effective, but at that stage of the game (in the powerplay overs), getting rid of the top and middle order of RCB was crucial,” said Rana at the post-match presentation.
“Suyash is not a mystery spinner but there is an X-factor. His arm speed is very fast, and that troubles batters. His action is also not easy to pick. He is also quick in the air, and if the batter doubts picking him, then there is trouble. The more he plays, the more experience he will gain and improve,” he further added.
KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit also heaped praise on the young spinner for his fighting attitude.
“We have seen him (Suyash) at trial matches. He is very quick in the air, and it’s very tough to pick him. It’s just the inexperience; but he showed a fighting attitude,” said Pandit after the match.
