‘KL Rahul would be keeping in the World Cup’ – Former India cricketer on KL Rahul’s remarkable comeback in international cricket

Former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir chose his ideal player who can keep wickets for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming ODI World Cup, 2023 which will be played on the home ground across 10 venues. Gautam Gambhir believes KL Rahul has had a stunning comeback in the Indian Cricket Team and has performed exceedingly well.

Especially, KL Rahul has passed all the given tests of batting under pressure, as well as keeping wickets for 50 overs. Gautam Gambhir also analysed with considering KL Rahul’s performance, he has sealed the number 4 spot in the team as a wicket-keeper batsman.

Now the number five position is open for Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan and even Hardik Pandya or Ravindra Jadeja, considering the situation in the match. KL Rahul hit a mind blowing century against Pakistan in his comeback match and took good catches behind the wicket.

He believes since before the come back of KL Rahul Ishan Kishan was the main wicket keeper for the team, but now only KL Rahul is keeping the wickets for the complete 50 overs, then Ishan Kishan position would be in question.

“I think the team management has made it very close that it’s going to be KL Rahul who would be keeping in the World Cup because there was Ishan Kishan, and if Kishan was in the scheme of things of playing on the 11th against Australia, then he would have kept, wickets for India because he was the main wicket-keeper but now in the last two games KL Rahul has kept wicket,” said Gautam Gambhir while talking to star sports after India’s match against Sri Lanka. 

“So the number five position is now open. Whether Shreyas Iyer comes into it, whether they play Suryakumar at seven and Hardik at five or Jadeja at five, now KL Rahul has secured that number four spot as a wicketkeeper-batsman. So, it is pretty much clear, which is good for Indian cricket that they have backed KL Rahul as a wicketkeeper now and who’s batting at number four,” added Gautam Gambhir.
