In the 3rd T20I of the ongoing five-match series, Australia beat India by five wickets. Batting first, Suryakumar Yadav-led India set a challenging target of 223 runs for Australia to chase, scoring 222/3 in 20 overs. Riding on Glenn Maxwell’s amazing batting performance, Australia thrashed the inexperienced Indian bowling line-up and won the game.

Earlier in the game, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten knockoff of 123 runs off 57 balls, along with Tilak Verma’s 31 off 24 balls, set up a formidable 141-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Despite early wickets, including Yadav’s 39 off 29 balls, India posted a formidable total. Australia’s Kane Richardson, Jason Behrendorff, and Aaron Hardie took one wicket each.

In response, Australia got off to a flying start as opener Travis Head and Aaron Hardie added 47 runs for the first wicket in just 4.2 overs. However, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan dismissed both in the next six balls and got India back in the game. Head in his comeback innings, he scored 35 runs off 18 balls with the help of eight boundaries. Meanwhile, Hardie scored 16 runs off 12 balls, as he had a poor comeback in this game.

Glenn Maxwell’s record-breaking innings outplayed India

Chasing a daunting total Australia was struggling after being five down for 134 runs in 13.3 overs. It was looking like India’s game until Glenn Maxwell broke absolute carnage. The Big Show, along with skipper Matthew Wade, added an unbeaten 91 runs for the sixth wicket. Maxwell, in his innings, scored his fourth T20I century in Guwahati. He scored an unbeaten 104 runs off 48 balls with the help of eight fours and eight sixes. In the last two overs, he added almost 40 runs to seal the game for the Aussies.

With this victory, Australia kept their hopes alive in the ongoing tournament, as they are trailing India by 2-1. For the fourth game, India and Australia will now move to Raipur, which will host the game on December 1. It’s worth noting that with this century, Maxwell equalled Rohit Sharma’s record for most T20I centuries.
