As per reports, the game boasts over 100 million players regularly. Honor of Kings is also one of the biggest esports titles in the mobile gaming industry, with prize pools rivalling PC games like Dota 2, Fortnite and League of Legends.
The popularity comes from games like League and Dota 2 which have a huge fan base. Taking advantage of the success, Tencent created Honor of Kings and sure enough, the game became popular among MOBA fans.
Arena of Valor, another MOBA game, was made as an international adaptation of Honor of Kings. However, with increasing popularity, the company is set to expand the original game. Gamers across CIS, the Middle East, and North Africa are now able to pre-register.
The game will be free-to-play and feature in-game cosmetics for characters, along with a season pass every few months.
The game is developed by Level Infinite and TiMi Studios, subsidiaries of Tencent, which is currently the biggest video game company. Both studios are popular for mobile game development, especially creating the mobile port of a PC game.
TiMi Studios was also the one to develop Call Of Duty Mobile, which also became immensely popular among gamers on launch. While the battle royale mode was lacking a bit, the arena shooter modes were the main attraction.
Level Infinite on the other hand also develops PC games along with mobile games, some of their popular titles include GTFO, Warhammer games, PUBG Mobile, V Rising, and many more.
