‘Low scoring thrilers > high scoring thrillers’ – Fans react as Quetta Gladiators beat Islamabad United by three wickets in PSL 2024 clash

Quetta Gladiators beat Islamabad United by three wickets.

In the 8th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Quetta Gladiators defeated Islamabad United by three wickets. In a low-scoring game, the Gladiators came out to be victorious by keeping calm throughout the match. They have overshadowed the United in all the three departments and hence, deserved to win the match. Even though none of the batters have scored a half-century, Jason Roy and Rilee Russouw’s efforts were enough for them to win the match.

The Gladiators won the toss and chose to field first. Even though Alex Hales (21) gave a good start to the innings, Colin Munro (20) tried to carry forward the momentum. As Salman Ali Agha (33) came into bat, his partnership with Munro seemed to take the team a long way, however, United managed to score just 138 runs. Abrar Ahmed and Muhammad Wasim took three wickets each while Akeal Hosein got two wickets.

For the Gladiators, it was Jason Roy (37), Rilee Russouw (34), and Sherfane Rutherford’s (29) collective efforts that helped the team win the match. No other batter, other than Mohammed Amir touched double-figures for the Gladiators. Naseem Shah and captain Shadab Khan took two wickets each while Rumman Raees and Hunain Shah got one wicket each. Rilee Russouw was awarded with the Player of the Match.

‘I think technology was at fault for this loss’ – Shadab Khan blames technology for loss against Quetta Gladiators

As Islamabad United lost the match, captain Shadab Khan straight away blamed the technology for their loss. As per him, the review shown to them had a different ball for tracking and not the original one. Since there was not much turn, the skipper feels the technology made some mistake which cost them the match.

Khan said at the post-match presentation, “I think technology was at fault for this loss. We were shown a different ball as to the review ( the review of Rossouw). I bowled 4 overs as a leg spinner, it wasn’t turning much. This one showed impact outside off and spinning away further. In a big tournament like this, there shouldn’t be such mistakes. I think we were 10-15 runs short, as batters we need to take more responsibility.”
