The Wimbledon 2023 final was a classic battle of generations. In the high-pressure finals, 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz faced the seasoned Novak Djokovic. Djokovic took the opening set as things were going his way. However, Alcaraz abruptly flipped the script and accomplished what looked unthinkable before Sunday. He won the Grand Slam after defeating Djokovic on Centre court.

Alcaraz defied all odds and destroyed every piece of history on his road to his maiden Wimbledon and second Grand Slam title, defeating Djokovic by 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. After his amazing victory, Alcaraz received a special message from Rafael Nadal. “Congratulations, @carlitosalcarazz. You have given us immense joy today, and for sure, our pioneer in Spanish tennis, Manolo Santana, has also been cheering wherever he is as a member of Wimbledon, which you have joined today. A very strong hug and enjoy the moment, Champion! We’re having a great time with our team”, Tweeted Nadal.

Notably, Rafael Nadal was the last Spanish player to win the Wimbledon Championship. He was not a part of the 2023 tournament as he opted out due to hip surgery. Nadal was injured during his second-round loss at the Australian Open earlier this year. He missed almost half of the season, including the French Open and Wimbledon. He might also miss out on the remainder because of his recovery.

Carlos Alcaraz registered a unique record

In his record-breaking victory, Carlos Alcaraz broke some amazing records. He became the second Spanish player to win the Wimbledon Championship. Before him, Nadal won it in 2008 and 2010. He also became the second player after Nadal to win two Grand Slam titles before the age of 21. Nadal had previously held the record with victories in the 2005 and 2006 French Opens.

It’s worth noting that the record for winning the Grand Slam at the youngest age belongs to Boris Becker. He won the Grand Slam at the age of 17. Martina Hingis, a former Swiss sensation, is the youngest person ever to win a Wimbledon title, having done it in 1997 at the age of 16.
