In the fifth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Quetta Gladiators defeated the Lahore Qalandars by five wickets. As the match went up to the last over, it kept the audience hooked to their seats. Khwaja Nafay’s brilliant 60 runs off 31 balls helped the Gladiators win their first match of the tournament. As the win was huge, the team might have gained a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

The match started on an interesting note when the Qalandars won the toss and chose to bat first. While Sahibzada Farhan played a fantastic knock of 62 runs off 43 balls, the rest of the team members couldn’t support him from the other end. Moreover, Jahandad Khan’s 45 runs off 17 balls also helped them reach a score of 187 runs. For Gladiators Akeal Hosein and Muhammed Hasnain got two wickets each.

When the Gladiators came to chase, the openers seemed to be pumped up from the first over. Jason Roy along with Saud Shakeel made a 69-run partnership before Shakeel got dismissed. Moreover, Khwaja Nafay’s efforts till the last moment were the main reason why the Gladiators won their first match. For Qalandar, except Jahandad Khan, all the other bowlers have picked up one wicket each.

Β ‘Need to improve our fielding’ – Skipper Shaheen Afridi on team’s performance

Cricket is a game where fielding is equally important as batting and bowling. Saving 4-5 odd runs on the field might turn out to be beneficial for the team in critical situations. However, that wasn’t the case for the Lahore Qalandars as the team failed in the fielding department and skipper Shaheen Afridi is quite unhappy with the team.

At the post-match presentation, Afridi said, “Won’t blame anyone. Need to improve our fielding, We haven’t been up to the mark and missed a few chances in the field. He (Khawaja Nafay) played superbly and Pakistan cricket is in safe hands. If we don’t field well, then it does not matter whether you miss a player or not (talking about the absence of Rashid Khan).”
